Job Description

Lecturer, Counseling Psychology

The Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Counseling in the Ed.M. program in the department of Counseling Psychology & Applied Human Development (CPAHD). We seek candidates with a background in educating counseling students, who have a thorough understanding of the training and supervision of counselors (e.g., mental health counselors, school counselors, counseling psychologists) and experience in providing behavioral health treatments and interventions from an integrated approach. An ideal candidate will be able to effectively teach Ed.M. counseling students, serve as the practica/internship coordinator for the program, and be an engaged member of the CPAHD department.

Our Ed.M. program in Counseling is grounded in a developmental and relational approach, emphasizing the integration of theory and practice to cultivate highly skilled and ethical practitioners who are deeply committed to promoting well-being of diverse communities. We train future counselors in three different tracks (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and Sports Psychology), and typically admit about 50 students each year. The Department of Counseling Psychology and Applied Human Development, in which this program is housed, is a collaborative community of faculty and students who have a strong social justice orientation, and thus we are seeking a faculty member who shares this orientation. An ideal candidate would have experience in providing evidence-based behavioral health treatments and interventions while prioritizing the diverse lived experiences of clients.

Responsibilities

·      Teach graduate level courses (e.g., psychopathology, counseling theories)

·      Coordinate practica/internship experiences for Ed.M. Counseling students

·      Establish and maintain affiliations with appropriate clinical placement settings to ensure that students receive valuable training. Ability to travel locally to visit sites.

·      To assess student progress, the coordinator will coordinate midterm and end-of-semester meetings with students and supervisors, collaborating with supervising faculty to ensure that students are meeting their educational standards.

·      Provide supervision (e.g., clinical practicum) and academic advisement to master’s students. Opportunities to provide clinical supervision (e.g. clinical practicum) for doctoral students may also be available.

·      Contribute to our Ed.M. program supporting administration and admissions for the program (e.g., reviewing applications, participating in recruitment events, attending program meetings).

This Lecturer position begins August 1, 2025.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
