Archivist/Library Assistant 

The Winsor School is an independent day school for academically promising and motivated girls in grades five through twelve. This full-time position will be split half-time between the archives and the library for most of the year. The archives work will play a critical role in the community, preserving Winsor’s history while making archival materials accessible to the extended school community and strengthening the long-term connection to Winsor. The library work will provide valuable operational support to the librarians and students in the library. 

This position will report to the director of strategic communications and the library director, with transitional support from the current archivist and archivist emerita.

This position’s duties include:

  • Identifying, soliciting, accessioning, appraising, and preserving archival material, including analog, digital, and hybrid records,

  • Identifying and launching a Digital Asset Management tool for the collection and initiating digitization projects,

  • Developing policies related to archival collection development and use,

  • Collecting and arranging analog, digital, and hybrid collections through finding aids, inventories, and databases,

  • Documenting and monitoring the school art collection,

  • Providing appropriate access to the archival collection and ensuring that the school community is aware of the available resources,

  • Responding to requests for information or research assistance from alumnae, faculty, staff, students, and outside researchers, 

  • Supporting the Communications Department by supplying archival materials for brochures, website content, Bulletin content, and publications about the school,

  • Operating the library circulation desk,

  • Supervising students in the library and enforcing library policies, as well as providing library coverage when the librarians are not on site,

  • Processing new books,

  • Creating displays for the library bulletin board and special events (e.g., Alumnae Weekend, Back-to-School Night, etc.),

  • Performing other library-related duties as assigned by the director.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, 

  • Experience in archival work, particularly with digital collections and digitizing,

  • Demonstrated commitment to community and inclusion work,

  • A genuine commitment to building relationships with students and colleagues,

  • Experience working with 5th–12th graders, experience in libraries, or interest in librarianship as a career is desirable but not required. 

Skills: 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail,

  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively, 

  • Strong writing and editing skills,

  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to prioritize demands,

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, and with attention to detail,

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching, as well as carrying and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs.
